One step in achieving EUREPA's aim to build up a network of modular, Europe-wide educational programs to provide a curriculum which leads to the European Certification in Epileptology is the identification and certification of trainers who will organize and conduct curricular courses, thus acting as multipliers in their own regions, countries and languages.
The first course with participants mainly from Central and Eastern Europe took place in Budapest in November 1998 with a concluding day in Prague, September 1999. This course was successful beyond expectation and resulted in structural improvements of education in epileptology in several countries. Since then several trainer courses have taken place in different regions and languages.
Pan-European courses were held with international participation in 2000 in German, in 2002 in Germany (in English), in 2003 in San Servolo/Italy (in Italian), in 2003 in Pruhonice/Czech Republic, and in October 2008 in Malta, both in English.
Five trainer courses were organized by the Francophone Section in 2004 (Usson/France), 2005 (Sfax/Tunisia), 2006 (Dakar/Senegal), 2007 (Yaoundé/Cameroon) and 2008 (Marrakech/Morocco).
The first course of the Lusophone Section (Portuguese speaking) took place in 2006 in Bento Goncalves/Brazil, followed by the second one in 2008 in Maputo/Mozambique.
The list of EUREPA trainers by the end of 2008 comprises 127 Trainers from 55 countries, including 4 EEG technicians and 3 Mental Health Technicians.
More information on the organization, invitations and content of these Trainer courses is available in the Trainer courses area of this site.
In addition to EUREPA trainers, a list of experts in their fields can be found within the ILAE - Faculty of 1000.
